Discoverers (2-3 Years)

children join our Discoverers Room when they turn two and stay with this team until they are three. This is an exciting stage of development, with rapid learning, new skills, and growing independence.

The Discoverers have two large rooms to explore. The connecting doors are usually open for free-flow play, and at lunchtime we close them—creating a calm space for naps and a busy space for play.

Many children start potty training at this age. Toilets and potties are always available, helping them learn independence at their own pace.

Discoverers have plenty of opportunities to explore, question, and create. Our Discoverers and Investigators share a garden and forest school for regular access to our outdoor classroom—offering daily opportunities for exploration and discovery. Days are rich with meaningful experiences — from walks in the local community to Forest School adventures, visits to Ridley Manor, and time at the allotment — giving children real-world learning in natural surroundings. Indoors, children are introduced to Montessori Practical Life activities, learning to care for themselves and their environment. Art areas encourage creativity and self-expression, while role play, small world, loose parts, early literacy, and a cosy reading corner invite exploration across every area of development.

Our Education

At two, children become more curious, independent, and eager to move from one experience to the next. We nurture this curiosity with carefully planned zones across our rooms—each designed to inspire exploration and learning. Children can enjoy imaginative small-world play, role play, messy play, loose parts, and a cosy story corner.

Our practitioners balance adult-led activities that introduce new skills with child-led play that encourages children to practise what they’ve learned. We see daily routines as valuable learning moments too. From serving themselves at mealtimes to cleaning up, putting on coats, and tidying away toys, children begin building independence and confidence.

Fresh air and nature are a big part of Discoverers life. Children spend time outdoors at least twice a day.
