At Sunshine Montessori, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our rich and varied extra-curricular programme is designed to nurture the whole child—supporting emotional, physical, and social development through real-world experiences that inspire curiosity, connection, and joy.
Children at Sunshine have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities, including:
- Forest School & Outdoor Learning – Led by qualified practitioners, our Forest School sessions take children into local woods and green spaces to explore, play, and learn in nature. From identifying trees to building dens and learning fire safety, these sessions foster confidence, resilience, and a deep love of the outdoors.
- Allotment Sessions – Weekly visits to our nursery allotment give children hands-on experience with planting, growing, and harvesting seasonal produce. These sessions teach patience, responsibility, and a meaningful connection to the natural world.
- Muddy Chefs Programme – Led by our trained chefs, this hands-on cooking programme invites children to prepare and cook real food using fresh, seasonal ingredients. It’s a fantastic way for children to build independence, explore healthy eating, and learn practical life skills.
- Makaton Signing Sessions – Delivered by an external Makaton professional, these sessions introduce children to signing in a fun, interactive way. Makaton supports all children in developing communication and understanding, and promotes inclusion throughout our setting.
- Yoga & Mindfulness – Our calming yoga sessions give children the space to stretch, breathe, and connect with their emotions. Through simple poses and mindful movement, children develop body awareness, focus, and emotional regulation.
- Sports & Physical Development – Through our Muddy Movers sessions and additional sport-based experiences (such as football and rugby tasters), children build strength, coordination, and teamwork skills through high-energy, playful learning.
- Intergenerational Connections – We’re proud of our intergenerational links, which bring children and older members of the community together for storytelling, gardening, crafts, and conversation. These sessions promote empathy, understanding, and a true sense of community.
These experiences don’t just support the EYFS—they enrich it. At Sunshine, we are passionate about providing memorable, meaningful learning opportunities that help children grow into confident, curious, and capable individuals.
