“This is the most special place and I feel very lucky that my daughter has spent the last year in their care. The staff are warm, experienced, and have a wonderful relationship with all of their children.”

Georgia, Mother of a child

Explorers (Babies)

Our baby rooms are calm, thoughtfully designed spaces with areas for sensory play, loose parts, physical exploration, and cosy story moments. Even our youngest children enjoy rich experiences — from their very own Forest School site to visits with the local care home and gentle interactions with older peers.

Discoverers (Toddlers)

Our toddler rooms are full of opportunities to explore, imagine, and get hands on. Children enjoy role play, early practical life activities, arts and crafts, loose parts, and block play. Their days are filled with garden time, local walks, and regular Forest School sessions that build confidence and spark curiosity.

Investigators (Preschool)

Our spacious Montessori preschool classroom is carefully arranged to support independence and deep, focused learning. Children choose from practical life, art, maths, literacy, and open-ended play areas, with plenty of space for creativity and collaboration. As they grow, they spend more time at the allotment and Forest School and enjoy weekly visits with their buddies at Ridley Manor.

Forest Schools

Our Forest School sites are a much-loved part of the Sunshine experience, offering children the freedom to learn in nature every single week. With dedicated spaces for babies and older children, everyone spends rich, meaningful time outdoors — climbing, exploring, storytelling, observing wildlife, and working together to solve problems.

Our Baby Forest School is just as special. Little ones experience nature gently and safely, with cosy sessions based around exploration, sensory discovery, and connection — supported by our beautiful heated yurt, creating a warm, secure base in all seasons.

These outdoor experiences nurture confidence, resilience, kindness, and cooperation. Children build strong friendships, develop a deep respect for the natural world, and carry a lasting sense of awe and wonder back into the classroom — where their curiosity continues to grow.

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is designed to honour childhood, nurture curiosity, and build the foundations for lifelong learning. Inspired by Montessori principles and enriched by real-world experiences, it weaves together hands-on exploration, nature, creativity, and community connection. Every activity is intentional yet joyful, giving children the space to follow their interests, gain confidence, and develop the skills that matter most from birth to five.

Nature

Nature is at the heart of everything we do. Whether children are digging in the soil, watching the seasons shift, or spending time in our forest school sites, they learn through the rhythms and wonders of the natural world. These daily experiences support emotional wellbeing, build resilience, and offer endless opportunities for enquiry, imagination, and calm.

Creativity

Creativity flows through each day at Sunshine Montessori. From open-ended materials and loose-parts play to art, dance, music, and storytelling, children are encouraged to express themselves freely and joyfully. Creative expression strengthens language, problem-solving, and confidence—helping children develop a rich inner voice and a lifelong love of making and imagining.

Community

A strong sense of community anchors our nurseries. Children build relationships with peers, staff, families, and the wider world—from visits to care homes to events that bring everyone together. We believe these connections create belonging, nurture empathy, and help children understand their place within something bigger, forming the foundation for confident, compassionate little citizens.
